Drive (Files)

Drive is Nomic's file manager. It shows all the files available to you—whether uploaded directly, synced from SharePoint, Egnyte, or a connected project delivery system. From Drive you can browse, organize, upload, search, and attach files to AI conversations.

Browsing Files

The Drive view shows all your files in a sortable table with columns for name, source, last modified date, and indexing status. Use the folder breadcrumbs to navigate into folders.

The Source column shows which integration each file came from (SharePoint, Egnyte, Upload, etc.). Click a source name to filter the view to that integration.

Uploading Files

To upload files directly to Drive:

  1. Click the Upload button in the top-right of Drive
  2. Choose File upload to select individual files, or Folder upload to upload an entire directory
  3. Or drag and drop files directly onto the Drive view

Uploaded files are immediately available to use in conversations.

To create an empty folder, click New Folder.

File Actions

Right-click any file or use the ··· menu on its row to see available actions:

Selecting Multiple Files

Check the boxes on file rows to select multiple files at once. A selection bar appears at the top of the list with bulk actions:

  • Start Chat — Open Assistant with all selected files attached
  • Tag — Add a tag to all selected files
  • Move — Move all selected files to a different folder (only shown if you uploaded all selected files)

Searching Files

Use the search bar at the top of Drive to find files by name. As you type, autocomplete suggestions appear showing matching file names, their type, and folder path.

Press Enter or click the search icon to go to the full search results page. On the results page you can filter by:

  • Status — Learned, Learning, Failed, or Not yet learned
  • Type — PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, or Folder
  • Tags — Filter to files with a specific tag
  • Integration — Narrow to files from a specific source

Search results are bookmarkable—the URL captures your current filters.

File Indexing (Learning)

Before Assistant can search and work with a file, it needs to be indexed. You'll see each file's indexing status in the Status column:

StatusMeaning
LearnedIndexed and ready for Assistant to use
LearningCurrently being indexed
FailedIndexing failed; try again via the file's action menu
(no status)Not yet indexed

Files synced from integrations like SharePoint and Egnyte are indexed automatically. Uploaded files can be indexed on demand via Learn Document in the file action menu. You can learn a file for yourself only, or for everyone in your organization.
