Agent troubleshooting

Fixes for common Assistant issues with project access, file uploads, and unexpected responses.

How can I improve Assistant accuracy?

  • Be specific in your prompts: include expected behavior and constraints
  • Provide relevant project context: link the project or Autodesk Forma folder Assistant should consider
  • Start a new thread when you finish a task or switch contexts
  • Attach files with the + button in the chat input to give Assistant targeted context
  • Ask Assistant to cite the exact page, drawing location, or standard it used

What if Assistant can't find my files?

  1. Confirm the file is uploaded, or that the project's integration (Autodesk Forma, SharePoint, Egnyte, Bentley — Business and Enterprise) is connected and has finished its initial sync — see Context Sources.
  2. Check that you have access to the file in the source system; Assistant respects upstream permissions.
  3. Check whether the file is indexed. Synced files, .docx, .pptx, and spreadsheets are not indexed automatically — run Index Document (or Index Folder) from the file or folder action menu. BIM models and CAD drawings skip document indexing — attach them and ask; DWG extract may still be running. DXF opens in the viewer but is not queryable. See Use CAD drawings (DWG).
  4. Try attaching the file with the + button in the chat input as a fallback.

If the file appears but Assistant still does not use it, check whether indexing is still running or failed.

How do I undo a change Assistant suggested?

Assistant proposes changes (e.g. markups) but does not apply them silently. Reject any proposal in the review panel before it's committed, and use your source system's version history if a change was already accepted.

How do I report a bad Assistant response?

Use the thumbs-down button on the response. Add a short note explaining what was expected — those reports route to the Nomic team and help us improve future answers.

What if the page is frozen or the reasoning trace is missing?

Try a fresh browser tab first. If the problem continues:

  1. Copy the page URL.
  2. Take a screenshot of the full browser window.
  3. Note your browser and operating system.
  4. Tell Support what you clicked immediately before the issue happened.

If a teammate can see the same run correctly, include that detail. It helps separate browser-specific issues from workflow or run issues.

If the problem only happens on a company network, VPN, or managed device, ask IT to review IT allowlisting and network access. Assistant and workflows use streaming responses, and some proxies buffer or block those connections.

What if a workflow output is wrong?

First decide whether the issue is input, instructions, or model behavior:

  • Input issue: wrong files, missing files, old versions, or too much context.
  • Instruction issue: the workflow did not ask for the check clearly enough.
  • Model issue: the workflow had the right inputs and instructions but still reasoned incorrectly.

For repeated workflow issues, test on a small sample and update the workflow before running the full document set again.
